The Democratic Club of Bonita Springs and South Lee County (FL)

www.dembonessolee.com

Until I volunteered for something as a Democrat, I felt isolated - as though I was one of just a few.
Then, I became a "Fellow" in the Obama campaign.
When I went to a phone bank or to canvass a neighborhood or to meet one-on-one, I knew we were many.
Yet, I always met someone who said they thought they were the only Democrat in our area.

On schedule, the 2012 elections were held.
The day after election night, I did not know what to do. I had no phone bank, no canvassing, no weekly meetings with my supervisor, no trainings. Nothing.

That is why I started going to the regular monthly meetings of the Democratic Club of Bonita Springs and South Lee County (the Club), so I could meet and talk with other Democrats.

After a few months of the then-Club President constantly pleading for members to run for Club offices, I raised my hand.
I volunteered and was elected President of the Democratic Club of Bonita Springs and South Lee County.

We are still looking for volunteers to fill both required and optional positions in the Club.
This is a great chance to put leadership and volunteer positions on your resume!

Please note the following update posted March 17, 2020:

Due to concerns about Covid-19 (which has been a known public health issue since 2019), the officers of the DEC have closed, cutback and postponed scheduled fundraisers, phone banks, canvassing, and other matters.

Among the Fun Fundraisers that will have to be reconstructed is our annual Gala. We were to honor Howard Simon for his work as Executive Director of ACLU Michigan and ACLU Florida.

Although Howard has retired, the ACLU keeps his bio active at https://www.aclufl.org/en/biographies/howard-simon-0.

In addition to the words of his bio, Howard may also be understood through his own words in a NY Times opinion piece about the Freedom Riders and the FBI, at https://www.nytimes.com/2011/05/22/opinion/l22freedom.html (Cache).

There was also to be an environmental boat tour directed by Rae Ann Wessel, Natural Resource Policy Director, Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation (SCCF). Find Rae Ann Wessel's bio - among the bios of many humble and direct people who work for SCCF - at www.sccf.org/who-we-are/staff.

By the way, on this website I have not buried the styles in a separate CSS file. Instead, style coding is here for anyone to learn from. Gratifyingly, I have been told by an educator for Goodwill Industries of Southwest Florida that women in high school who are learning to code have used this website for demonstration purposes. It may not be perfect, but it works. Glad I could help!
